I love hockey. When two teams meet head-to-head, there is heated discussion between the teams' online forums. Inevitably someone comes forth and gives a detailed analysis, a scientific proof really, of why their team has no chance whatsoever to win.
The analysis is part of a strange ritual known as the "reverse-whammy". The true fan believes that they control their favorite team's destiny. It might be that if they go to the game, the team always loses. The reverse-whammy advocate believes that if they honestly give up hope and submit to the idea of their opponent's superiority, their team will in fact prevail.
At first glance an outsider might mistakenly think this is all in fun, but the fans take this stuff all too seriously. In the reverse-whammy tradition (well sort of), here is a good comic that I hope doesn't prove to be prophetic.
